'The World'

Grammy and Grampy have a dear friend, Jim, who is the President of the ship 'The World' and today it was in St. Croix and Jim let us aboard to check it out!!!
'The World' is not just any cruise ship...it is a ship that people live on and have a residency aboard. There are only about 150 residents, 250 staff that live among the ship. The rooms on the ship vary from a studio size to an apartment size. The World does travel around the world, stopping everywhere you can imagine!!
The ship is fully equipped with everything it needs to sustain itself at sea without going to land. (We even got to see that area where there glass is broken down to be recycled on the ship)!!! Another interesting fact is that the ship is equipped with it's own OPERATING ROOM!!! WOW!! (we didn't get to see this, I was sad) Hmmmm, I wouldn't mind working in the OR on the ship...hire me!!!! (wishful thinking)
THere is alot more to write about this ship,...however, if you are interested in looking more into the ship, you can check out the website: www.aboardtheworld.com

This is Jim. He is such a neat man,...he gave me a teddy bear dressed up as a captain from the gift shop on the boat!!

Here's what you see when you first walk into the ship. It looked almost like a big ballroom!

We got to tour the WHOLE boat!! It sure is a big enough boat that alittle one like me can get lost very easily! Jim took us into a 3500 sq. ft, 3bed, 3 bathroom apartment that was on sale,...asking price is only $7 million!!! It was on the bow of the boat and had a HUGE wrap around deck to the outside. Here was the cute kitchen!!!

Here was one of the bedrooms. They all had flatscreen TV's mounted on the walls and office desks in them! Not a bad way to wake up every morning according to my mom and dad!
Jim took us into a very private, secure place on the ship...'the Bridge.' This is where the captain steers the boat!! Daddy was very impressed with all the technology in that room...what's even more impressive is the fact that ONE person can do all of it by his self!!!
Daddy sitting in one of the many captain chairs...he said they were very comfy!! The chairs were on a sliding mechanism so he can slide back and forth to operate all the different computers! Pretty cool!!!
Another picture of us in 'the bridge.' It was over here that the captain stands to dock the boat while coming into port. (Next picture shows the glass floor so they can see below).

Daddy likes the top floor of the ship the best for obvious reasons!! You can practice your putting in golf, play tennis (the only full size tennis court on a ship in the world), run around the track, swim, ect.
They even had a room where you can go in and practice your swing in golf. Daddy got to try it out and mommy had to pull him out of the room as it was time to go!!!

Thanks again to Jim who took his time out of his busy schedule to show us the ship and we soon realized that we'd never have a residency at sea...unless we win the lotto!! ;)
